James David Keen

James David Keen was born in Attala County in 1842 and died there in 1920. He was the son of David and Eliza Keen.

James served in Co. B, 3rd Battlion, Mississippi Cavalry Reserves and in the 35th Mississippi Regiment during the Civil War.  Upon his return from the war he married Malissa Elvina Emerson in 1866 and they had at least six children.  The children were; Henry Anderson, Joseph W., Katie Virgy and Mattie E.  These children married into the Millwood, Downs, Robertson and Hutchins families.

After Malissa's death in 1889, James married Callie Hutchins from which there was no issue.  David and Malissa are buried in Bowlin Cemetery in Attala County.

David was a farmer by trade.  He lived all his life in Attala County and never ventured too far from his home site.
