C. E. CARNES, ATTALA NATIVE, DIED IN NEW ORLEANS. News has reached relatives in the county of the death of C. E. Carnes, 68-year old Crowley, LA, businessman and a native of this county, at the St. Charles Hotel in New Orleans. Mr. Carnes apparently died in his sleep.
Funeral services were held at Crowley, with Masonic services at the grave. Internment was in the Masonic cemetery in Lafayette.
Mr. Carnes left Attala county to make his home in Louisiana in 1900. He had been a resident of Crowley since 1922.
He was a professor of mathematics at Southwestern Louisiana Institute of Lafayette for five terms prior to which he had been principal of the Morgan City school where he had also been a member of the faculty.
Surviving besides Mrs. Carnes are a sister, Mrs. Mack Christian, Tampa, Fla., and a brother, W. P. Carnes, Baton Rouge.
