William & Lucy W. Caperton Cole Bible Record - Attala Co., Ms.

Present owner (Mar, 1959): J. H. Riley - Ethel, Attala Co., Ms.

Note: Mr. J. H. Riley, owner of the Cole Bible, lives in the old Riley home located in the northern part of Attala Co., north of the Liberty Chapel community and west of the Natchez Trace Parkway, between Kosciusko and French Camp, Missippi. Mr. Riley's mother is the Ida C. Cole (b. 1858) in this record.
William Cole, original owner of the Bible, owned 840 acres along Cole Creek - this land is now owned by Mr. J. H. Riley, the acreage extending from just west of the home site toward the east until after Cole Creek crosses the Natchez Trace Parkway. Cole Creek drains a large area in the northern part of Attala Co. and runs through swampy section, said by the natives to be cold even in hot summer weather - some even insist that the name is "Cold" Creek instead of "Cole".

This certifies that the Rite of Holy Matrimony was celebrated between William Cole of Attala co., Ms. and Lucy W. Caperton of Choctaw Co., Ms. on 9 Feb, 1842 by John Caperton, Esqr.
